Will Schoel, Director of Organizational Development

Will Schoel is the Director of Organizational Development at HealthSouth, which is one of the nation’s largest providers of post-acute healthcare services including inpatient rehabilitation, home health and hospice. A Birmingham native, Will is a graduate of Mountain Brook High School, Tulane University, and the University of Tennessee, where he earned a doctorate in Industrial and Organizational Psychology. Before coming to HealthSouth, Will worked for Procter and Gamble, which is one of the world’s largest consumer goods companies. There he gained experience as both an HR generalist and a leader of global practices including applicant tracking, employee selection, employee research, succession planning, ethics and compliance, and alliance management. At HealthSouth, Will’s department is responsible for employee selection, onboarding, training, succession planning, development and employee research. Will is on the board of Episcopal Place and the Episcopal Place Foundation, which provide affordable housing and supportive services for seniors and disabled adults in Birmingham.
Michelle Grill, Department Manager of Learning and Development
Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama
Michelle has over 20 years of learning and development experience and has been with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama for 28 years. She is a graduate of The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), with a B.S. degree in Management. She began her career at Blue Cross in the Claims Division and was promoted to Learning and Development as a facilitator. She has extensive experience in adult education, technical and management class facilitation, instructional design and electronic performance support systems.
She has been in management for more than 15 years, managing diverse teams from various disciplines including technical facilitators, instructional designers, technical writers and editors, and performance consultants. Michelle has earned the credential of a Balanced Scorecard Professional (BSP) and a Key Performance Indicator Professional (KPI-P) from the Balanced Scorecard Institute in conjunction with George Washington University College of Professional Studies. She is a member of the Association for Training and Development (ATD).
Dan Crumpton, Vice President of Human Resources & Talent Development

Dan Crumpton is a Human Resources and Talent Development Executive with 20 years of experience. He has been the HR executive in organizations as large as 2,000 employees and smaller organizations in a growth cycle. His background includes experience with labor and employment law, employee engagement, employee relations, organizational development, employee benefit design and wellness programs. His industry experience includes many areas: legal services, healthcare services (hospital, physician practice, health maintenance organization and hospice) and most recently, experience in the travel management industry. He has also had responsibility for talent development and training functions in these industries and has a passion for education and training.

Stephen Owens, VP Talent Acquisition and Leadership Development
Protective
Stephen Owens is the Vice President of Talent Acquisition & Development for Protective Life where he leads the talent acquisition, learning and development, and leadership development functions. His teams are responsible for finding, building and deploying the right talent to deliver on the business objectives.
He has worked with leaders at all levels in the private and public sectors, and began his career in sales for a manufacturing company based in the Midwest before a short stint working in government. He has undergraduate degrees in Criminal Justice and Business Management from the University of Alabama as well as an MBA from Samford University. He’s spent the last two years working to drive a more agile culture to improve performance.
Stephen lives in Homewood, AL with his wife Amanda and two boys, and is actively involved with several service organizations in the Birmingham area. He’s served in various volunteer capacities with trade associations, development groups and service organizations generally focused on developing people through education to improve their circumstances. He has served in ATD as Volunteer Coordinator, VP of Programs, President and Past President.
