Are They Really Learning???  Learning Styles and How They Impact the Transfer of Learning
 Speak: Sharleen Smith
Transfer of learning is an ongoing fundamental and significant concern in the world of talent development.  Whether you have been in training and development for years or are new to this field, to be effective you must diligently focus on delivering content in such a way that learning transfers back to the workplace.   While there are many factors to consider in transfer of learning, it is essential to understand learning styles if you want learning to take place.  The August ATD program is focused on understanding learning styles and how to use them in designing content, instructional activities and presentation aids for maximum learning, retention and applicability.  Even without participants taking the Learning Type Measure, there are still ways you can apply learning styles in your programs. Join us to discover methods that will help you engage your audience for an exceptional learning experience!
Our presenter, Sharleen Smith, is an experienced and much sought-after speaker, trainer, organizational consultant and executive coach.  She has trained over 450,000 people in over 200 topics.  Ms. Smith is a published author in journals such as The Journal of Applied Psychology, Journal of International Management and Personnel and Journal of Personnel Administration.  She built the first State Personnel Training Department in Alabama state government.  At Auburn University in Montgomery, she built the Alabama Training Institute. In September of 2014, she was recruited by Troy University to serve as the Director of Professional Development. Her goal at Troy is to build the professional development side of the Continuing Education Division in and around all campuses, globally.
Ms. Smith is a member of the National Association of Female Executives, Chief Learning Officer Intelligence Board, 2014 Executive Women in America, and Association of Psychological Type.  She currently holds the Past President position on the Board of Directors for the Alabama School of Alcohol and Other Drug Studies.  She serves as the leadership coach for the Leadership Montgomery’s Torchbearers, a young professional’s society as well as for multiple Leadership Universities.
Ms. Smith’s humorous and active style of speaking is just what the 21st century workforce needs.  It is her belief that when individuals are learning, they are increasing the possibilities for themselves and their organizations.   We are fortunate to have her present this timely program.
