Thought Training: The Next Evolution of Training

Speaker: Drew Burk
Is it possible to train an employee for every conceivable problem they will encounter on a task?

And how many times have those problems forced an employee to make a decision for which they were unprepared?

Welcome to problems in the modern workplace.  With technology always changing and a new generation of employees who are more educated than ever, we are finding new ways for problems to affect us. The task specific model of training is no longer enough.  No one cares about task training.  It just isn't enough.  Just like our workplace, we must evolve. The next evolution of training is here: Thought Training.  In this session, you will explore how task training is no longer enough and how you as training professionals must evolve with the times.  We will explore the world of Thought Training and how it can benefit our organizations. Finally, we will explore the different ways we can incorporate Thought Training into our training practices.

Drew Burk has spent most of his career in the Field of Training and Development. He currently works as Training Advisor for the Personnel Board of Jefferson County where he is responsible for the learning and development of over 7000 government employees across more than 20 cities and jurisdictions.  He trains employees on multiple topics from Leadership and Customer Service to Project Management and Critical Thinking.  Prior to his government experience, he spent over 7 years in the Manufacturing Industry managing Training, Quality, and Safety Departments.  In additions to his work with the Government, he consults with business partners on delivering their training needs and setting up their Training Programs. He is a recipient of Training Magazine's 2015 Emerging Training Leader Award and is part of a team awarded the Leadership 500 Excellence Award in the field of Government/Military by HR.com.
